Myanmar Refugees
The Catholic Social Services Charlotte Refugee Resettlement Office has requested that Love INC help them with a large influx of Myanmar Refugees who are coming into Charlotte, NC, over June and July. We are happy to do so. These are not refugees from the recent cyclone. They or their parents are probably political refugees. Most of them have been living in a refugee camp in Thailand for anywhere from two to twenty years. Some of them were born in the refugee camp. This is a real cultural shock to them.
If you would like to see what the camp in Thailand was like, here is a link to a YouTube video that shows a young refugee girl living in the camp. It will give you just a slight idea of how different life was for them there, compared to what they are facing in the U.S.
